Measure a: Average Clearance Time for Over-90-Minute Incidents

Description:

Average Clearance Time for Over-90-Minute Incidents
On Key Highway Segments: 3rd Qtr 2005 - 1st Qtr 2010

The Washington Department of Transportation and the Washington State Patrol are currently focusing on reducing the length of major incidents lasting more than 90 minutes, such as serious accidents involving fatalities and commercial motor vehicles. These incidents cause lengthy traffic backups and increase the likelihood of secondary collisions. Since 2005, average clearance time for major incidents lasting longer than 90 minutes has dropped. Although the average time of over-90-minute incidents went up in Q1, 2010, the number of such incidents decreased to 61 compared to an average of 82 incidents a quarter in 2008 and 2009.

The red line shows Governor's performance target. The new target of 155 minutes was met in 2009.
