Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards accepting nominations

OLYMPIA - Serve Washington is accepting nominations for the 13th annual Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards, which recognize individuals, volunteer groups and families for their volunteer efforts. The awards honor some of Washington’s most dedicated individuals and groups for their commitment to volunteerism as the foundation for caring communities and a thriving Washington.

A team of judges will review applications to select 12 individual awards, five national service awards and three group awards for these individual criteria:

AmeriCorps alumna/alumnus
Animal welfare
Citizen Corps/CERT volunteer
Disaster/emergency response
Education
Employee volunteer
Environment
Health care
Human services
Social services
Veteran

Youth (18 and younger)

AmeriCorps member
VISTA volunteer
Foster Grandparent Program
Retired Senior Volunteer Program
Senior Companion Program

Group awards
Employer-based program
Service group
Volunteer family

Honorees will be recognized at the Volunteer Service Awards ceremony to be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Executive Mansion in Olympia and later that day during a pre-game ceremony at Safeco Field in Seattle in conjunction with the Seattle Mariners Salute to Volunteers Night.

The deadline to submit nominations is 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017. All nominations must be submitted via the online form at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GVSA-Nomination unless accommodations are requested.
