Personnel Resources Board Legal Exp
The State Human Resources Division provides administrative and funding support to the Personnel Resources Board (PRB), an independent part-time appeals board adjudicating matters related to discipline and allocations pursuant to state civil service statutes and regulations. As a result of the board’s decision to move to a more equity-driven model of decision making, the PRB is incurring significant, unanticipated, and unfunded legal expenses. A recent lawsuit filed by another state agency challenging this model has added to these costs. In addition, the PRB is anticipating additional legal costs related to appeals of the new information technology structure. Funding is adjusted to reflect the anticipated additional legal costs.
