The Fire Training Academy Burn Building provides training opportunities for fire fighters. It has developed major structural failures to the floors, ceilings and walls, and as a result, multiple building areas are out of service. This project will make necessary repairs to live fire training areas including the Level 2 Warehouse refractory; Level 2 Small Burn Room flooring; Burn Tower Level 2 refractory replacement and other improvements; Burn Tower Level 5 flooring replacement and other improvements; and removal of steel framing and the roof hatch at Burn Tower Level 6.

The requirements for evidence testing, evaluation and documentation have changed, limiting the functionality of the Kennewick Crime Lab. The lab evidence vault does not have a secure alarmed area for storage of evidence, which is a requirement of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, and security at the front entrance of the lab is poor. This project will reconfigure workspaces and install a fume hood; an Americans with Disabilities Act compliant lab sink and eyewash station; intrusion-resistant walls at the evidence storage room; a two-barrier security control for the evidence room; and ballistic protection for the evidence receiving area.

There is a significant backlog of sexual assault kits waiting to be processed for DNA analysis. This project will design and renovate currently empty space at the Vancouver Crime lab into a High-Throughput Lab, which will specialize in sexual assault kit analysis.
