Washington state has more than 2,900 leaking underground storage tanks (UST) sites awaiting remediation. This funding provides financial assistance to landowners and small business operators throughout Washington to remove and upgrade UST systems, particularly where historical contamination or abandonment may pose a long-term threat to groundwater reserves of a community.

2019-21 Leaking Tank Model Remedies Activity

Washington state has more than 2,900 leaking underground storage tanks sites awaiting remediation, several of which include historical contamination. This funding is provided to develop and fully implement the Leaking Tanks Model Remedies activity by the Pollution Liability Insurance Agency. This effort will support the economic vitality, health and well-being of landowners and small business owners and operators throughout statewide in the regulatory closure of their contaminated sites by leveraging the petroleum model remedies developed by the Department of Ecology.
