Definition
Perform semi-skilled painting work of graduated complexity in an on-the-job training program.
Typical Work
Perform various painting and related duties with special emphasis on those duties required to complete the specific on-the-job painter trades training program;
Obtain, prepare, and deliver materials to the job site and assist in assembly and installation;
Clean up and maintain shop areas, work sites, and storage areas;
Complete on-the-job and related academic painter trades training program requirements;
Perform related duties and functions as specified in approved trades training program;
May drive, load, and unload service vehicles;
Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment of painting trade; characteristics of paints, varnishes, stains, shellacs, lacquers, enamels and solvents; methods of preparing metal, wood, glass, plaster, cement and other surfaces; safety precautions.
Ability to: blend, harmonize and contrast colors; apply paints and other finishes by brush, roller or spray gun; work on scaffoldings and swing stages.

Desirable Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED certificate
OR
Six months of experience as a maintenance aide or equivalent.
May require a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
