Definition

Perform maintenance and fueling of high-pressure steam boilers and related plant equipment.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions in this class perform routine operation, maintenance and cleaning of power plant equipment under supervision.

Typical Work

Fires boilers with natural gas, coal, or oil as selected by operating engineers;

Inspects water level gauges on boilers;

Changes recording charts and takes fuel and steam readings;

Assists in disassembling and repairing boilers and power plant equipment for cleaning and replacement of working parts;

Cleans and oils firing equipment;

Inspects fuel consumption; changes adjustment on fuel burners for best efficiency;

Performs related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications

One year of experience in firing high-pressure boilers or equivalent training and all necessary applicable city/municipal licensing.
