Definition
Provides direct patient care while overseeing daily operations, staff supervision, and regulatory compliance across the Cardiac Rehab Program.
Distinguishing Characteristics
With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action. Under general direction, supervise Exercise Physiologists and related staff in supporting the guidelines of the AACPVR (American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation); oversee the daily operations and related research activities. Provide direct patient care, ensure compliance with clinical and regulatory standards, monitor the departmental budget.
Typical Work
Provide hands-on cardiac rehabilitation services, applying evidence-based practices for patients with cardiac conditions.
Oversee daily operations and research programs; ensure regulatory compliance and appropriate staffing coverage.
Supervise Exercise Physiologists and other assigned staff; while supporting onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and ongoing professional development.
Monitor departmental budget, oversee accurate billing and charge capture, and implement cost-effective practices.
Lead quality improvement initiatives, ensure delivery of safe, high-quality services, and respond to safety concerns or disruptions.
Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: cardiac rehabilitation principles and protocols; exercise physiology and cardiovascular disease management; regulatory and accreditation standards in healthcare settings; healthcare billing, budgeting, and charge capture processes; staff supervision, training, and performance management techniques; quality improvement methods and patient safety protocols.
Ability to: deliver direct patient care in a cardiac rehabilitation setting; assess and monitor patients’ cardiovascular responses to exercise; supervise and mentor a multidisciplinary team; develop and manage staffing schedules; evaluate program effectiveness and implement quality improvement initiatives; interpret and apply healthcare regulations and compliance requirements; monitor department budget and operational resources effectively; communicate clearly with patients, staff, and leadership; maintain accurate records and ensure documentation aligns with clinical and regulatory expectations.

Desirable Qualifications
Master’s degree in exercise science, physiology, health education or related field
Current, unencumbered licensure in the appropriate discipline (i.e., Exercise Physiologist Certification)
Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in cardiac rehabilitation or related setting required
Previous supervisory or team leadership experience strongly preferred.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
