Definition

Manufactures and repairs clothing and linen items.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Under direct supervision, performs routine seamstress tasks, e.g., cutting, sewing, repairing, discarding cloth articles.

Typical Work

Cuts and sews a variety of cloth articles, e.g., smocks, covers surgical articles, gowns, laundry bags;

Alters and repairs used clothing, uniforms and linen items;

Discards work or otherwise non-usable linen items;

Sews on buttons; installs and repairs zippers, snaps and grommets;

Operates electric sewing machines, power cutters and other sewing and mending equipment;

Perform related duties as required.

Ability to operate a sewing machine.
