Definition

Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the provision of assistive technology services to Division of Vocational Rehabilitation customers.  Provide training and consultation for a defined geographic area. Monitors and evaluates assistive technology services and is assigned the most complex cases.  Mentors and consults with lower professional levels.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This level will provide training to other rehabilitation professionals within the agency.  Employees at this level carry a larger burden for consulting on particularly complex cases, relying on expertise gained through required direct service provision.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

A Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a rehabilitation science and equivalent of 2 years full-time experience providing direct customer related assistive technology services. 

Note:  For incumbents of the Vocational Rehabilitation Regional Medical Program Consultant class (as of May 2003) who will transition into this new class ONLY, an MSW or certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor will be considered qualifying for the degree requirement.
