Definition

Under specific direction, operate, monitor, repair, and modify television and radio equipment.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions in this class perform basic and routine technical duties related to television and radio facilities and/or broadcasting/distribution systems. Positions receive close supervision or follow specific and established procedures.

Typical Work

Adjusts television cameras and maintains picture quality; 

Sets up, aligns, and checks video and audio equipment used for production of radio and television programs; 

Assists higher-level technicians in the operation of radio and television broadcasting transmitters, video-tape systems, and master control panels; 

Checks films, video and audio-tapes, and slides against program and production schedules; operates audio and projection equipment and recorders in accordance with schedules; 

Adjusts and repairs equipment and perform routine maintenance; constructs and modifies radio and television electronic equipment under direction of higher-level technicians; 

Perform related duties as required.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

High School, technical, or vocational school graduate, or GED Certificate;

AND 

One year of full-time experience/training in electronics equipment operation and maintenance. First class radio-telephone operator license may be required. 

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. 

Examination Requirements: 

  • A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability, and other elements which are established through job analysis.
