HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS SPECIALIST 3
Definition
Serves as a designated lead of three or more Health Insurance Benefits Specialists 2. Assigns, instructs and checks the work of Health Insurance Benefits Specialists and performs the duties of Health Insurance Benefits Specialist 2.
Typical Work
Performs typical work identified in the Health Insurance Benefits Specialist 2 class;
Monitors lower level Health Insurance Benefits Specialists’ work performance for quality, quantity and timeliness;
Identifies training needs of staff and provides/schedules appropriate training;
Reviews follow-up referrals from lower level Health Insurance Benefits Specialists and determines appropriate action;
Explains policies and procedures and program requirements to lower level Health Insurance Benefits Specialists and others;
Assists lower level Health Insurance Benefits Specialists and other agency/plan contacts to solve complex issues or problems;
Based upon circumstances and judgment makes exceptions to policy;
Reviews and determines whether to reimburse health insurance claims at preferred or non-preferred rate;
Performs other work as required.

Desirable Qualifications
One year as a Health Insurance Benefits Specialist 2 or Benefits Specialist 2.

Equivalent education/experience.
