WAREHOUSE OPERATOR 2 - TEAMSTERS

Definition
This is the journey level of the series. Performs warehouse functions in a major area within a large warehouse or independently operates a small or decentralized warehouse; receives, records, stores, issues, and ships stock and supplies; and disposes of surplus property.
Typical Work
Supervises or participates in the procuring, receiving, unloading, moving and loading of various types of materials, equipment or electronics/communications components and equipment;
Conducts ongoing property inventory control maintenance; responsible for accurate maintenance of accounting records that identify inventory on hand in addition to that being shipped and received;
Supervises or participates in unpacking incoming items and checking their condition, quantity, and type, against shipping documents; makes stock identification tags; coding acquisition and handling charges shown on receiving documents;
Plans work of subordinates, students, patients, offenders, or residents and instructs them in commissary or warehousing duties; maintain security regulations in connection with resident work detail;
May train, lead or supervise lower level staff;
May operate material handling equipment such as forklift trucks and light trucks;
Conducts physical inventories; prepares and maintains perpetual inventory, records, and correspondence files; keeps other records as required;
Prepares and maintains shop requisitions;
Maintains good safety practices;
Maintains warehouse arrangement and maximizes space utilization to accommodate current stock;
Establishes delivery priorities and delivery destination points through coordination with activities supported;
Oversees disposal of surplus or excess property;
Oversees the loading, unloading, movement, and distribution of materials, including flammable and hazardous materials, and equipment, and oversee assembly of goods received;
Determines sequence and most convenient location to unload railroad cars; prepares daily switching list used to guide train crews in spotting rail cars at different warehouse locations; schedules unloading of cars according to warehouse needs and to avoid demurrage charges;
Prepares daily report for warehouse management of all receipts by rail, ship, or express; writes up receiving reports of boxcar and truck shipments arriving at warehouse; prepares damage and shortage reports;
Requisitions electronic/communication components or equipment by listing parts numbers, description, quantity and estimated cost;
As authorized, secures oral, telephone or written bids on items not covered by previous contract and for special items such as wire rope and special steel, and awards a contract; locates suppliers and secure bids for special machinery, steel or brass molding of forms or the fabrication of special equipment or parts; electronic components and equipment;
Meets with sales representatives and representatives of electronic/communication equipment vendors and purchases or recommends the purchase of their goods;
Recommends quality and kinds of materials to be purchased, prepare specifications and requisitions; confers with operating officials on their needs;

Desirable Qualifications
Positions typically require a High School graduation or GED Certificate and physical ability to do required work and one year of clerical or technical experience in retail clerking, warehousing, stockkeeping, shipping, or receiving and operation of material handling equipment.
