Assist with complex casting such as fracture reduction casting; apply, mend, and remove a variety of casts, braces, splints, and dressings; assist physician with complex surgical procedures such as arthroscopy.

Under general supervision, apply, mend, and remove complex castings and splints; assist physician with complex surgical procedures such as arthroscopy; administer medications, suture wounds and perform telephone triage.

Assist physician with complex casting, arthroscopic procedures, pin replacement/removal, and external fixator removal; 

Perform procedures including suturing, instillation of medications for local anesthesia, wound debridement, irrigations, and dressing changes; 

Perform stress tests to check for joint stability; 

Perform basic laboratory procedures including venipuncture and wound cultures; 

Monitor patient's condition following casting; recognize emergent/urgent problems and provide telephone triage for patients with cast problems; 

Perform the work of an Orthopaedic Technician 1; 

Perform related duties as required.

Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) and two years of direct patient care experience 

Equivalent education/experience.
