Executive orders and directives
Washington state has a number of executive orders and directives related to workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion that enhance the recruitment, retention, and safety of the state’s workforce. Below you can find what each of the executive orders/directives mean for state agenices as well as links to helpful information.
Affirmative action
WAC 357-25-025 requires agencies to maintain policies on affirmative action and equal opportunity, reasonable accommodation, and sexual harassment:
- The employer’s affirmative action and equal employment opportunity policy statement must be reviewed and approved by the head of the agency, institution, or related higher education board each year.
- The policy statements on sexual harassment and reasonable accommodation must be updated as needed.

Equal employment opportunity provides equal access and opportunity to anyone who qualifies, regardless of sex, race, age, color, religion, mental or physical disability, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and/or military status. Covered groups cannot be excluded from participation in employment opportunities.

About the Employee Affirmative Action and Demographic Data Form
In June of 2020 we updated the Employee Affirmative Action and Demographic Data (EAADD) form. The form includes updated terms and definitions, improvements to the introductory language at the top, and data collection fields added during the previous update in January 2020.
