Supervises the crews operating, maintaining, and repairing the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and other steel bridges.

Supervises such maintenance work as tightening and replacing suspender cable liners; overhauling and servicing dampening hydraulic jacks; tightening main cablecasting bolts; repairing expansion dams; servicing hold-down cables, wind shoes and monorail expansions; checking and replacing bolts in travelers, monorail and floating deck systems; servicing emergency light plant, foghorns, air beacons and navigation equipment; 

Inspects the entire bridge after high winds or earthquakes, replacing pins and bolts where needed; 

In emergencies, supervises the erection of Bailey Bridges and supervises the repair of other steel, concrete and wooden bridges; 

Submits plans and estimates for repairs; keeps records of labor and materials; assigns, directs and evaluates personnel; enforces safety standards; personally performs the more responsible and skilled tasks; prepares reports of work done;

May supervise necessary maintenance of other steel, concrete and wooden bridges;

Performs other work as required.

A valid driver's license is required. 

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

High school graduation or possession of a GED certificate. 

AND 

One year as a Maintenance Lead Technician, Suspension Bridge or Maintenance Supervisor, Bridge, or two years as a Maintenance Specialist, Suspension Bridge or five years of experience in bridge painting, rigging or in the erection or maintenance of structural steel on high bridges, buildings, towers or dams. 

Equivalent education/experience. 

Notes: 

• Must be capable of working at heights exceeding 300 feet.
• A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B without air brakes restriction must be attained within the first six months of employment. Some positions may require the H endorsement.
