Definition

Schedules, coordinates and performs laundry processing tasks and washroom operations.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Under general supervision, leads subordinate laundry workers on a regular basis; or has primary responsibility for the coordination and completion of all phases of laundry activities.

Typical Work

Regularly assigns, instructs and checks the work of employees;

Inspects and produces processed laundry to meet user requirements;

Instructs students, patients or inmates in routine laundry work;

Directs and performs loading, unloading and operation of washers, extractors, tumblers and other washroom equipment;

Verifies laundry lists, checks and counts user orders, coordinates production to meet work orders and maintains laundry operations records;

May coordinate laundry processing activities to meet user requirements and production standards;

Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:  use of bleaches, soaps, and starches. 

Ability to: operate washing machines, mangles, extractors, and presses; supervise and train students, patients or inmates in operating laundry equipment and in doing routine laundry work; follow written and oral instructions.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

Six months of experience as a Laundry Worker 1, or equivalent, in a large commercial or large institutional laundry.  Completion of a training course in laundry operations may substitute for three months of required experience.

New class, consolidates 4132 Washroom Equipment Operator II and 4141 Laundry Operator II; adopted May 10, 2007, effective July 1, 2007.
