Population estimates
OFM produces a variety of annual and occasional estimates. Some like the April 1 population estimates are required by law. Other estimates are produced to support other state and local planning functions.
April 1 county, city, and town estimates
Population and housing estimates as of April 1 for all counties, cities, and towns in the state pursuant to RCW’s 43.62.030, 43.62.040 and 36.13.100.
Age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin estimates
Current and intercensal estimates by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin are available for select census geographies. Age and sex and race and Hispanic origin estimates are available by state and county.
Small and special area estimates
Estimates for special areas, including select census geographies, highway urban areas, public transportation benefit areas, regional transit authority areas, thermal electric and generating facility areas, and other administrative areas, are available.
Limited English proficiency population estimates
Providing language access is a requirement for all organizations and agencies that receive federal financial assistance. Limited English proficiency estimates at the state and county level are provided to help state agencies, local government and more comply with this requirement.
Historical population and housing estimates
Intercensal estimates and postcensal estimates of population and housing, decennial census counts from 1890 forward, and housing permits, completions, and demolitions from 1990 to present can be found here.
Population density estimates
State law defines rural areas and references population density in numerous areas. See relevant RCW’s and density tables for state, county, and incorporated cities and towns.
