Policy Changes

Supporting OII Opening

The 2021 Legislature created an Office of Independent Investigations (OII) within the Governor's office to investigate incidents involving police use of deadly force. The OII is authorized to conduct investigations beginning July 1, 2022. OFM requests additional funding for the OII after subsequent efforts to establish the office has resulted in better cost estimates. (General Fund - State)

Investigator Training

Funding is provided for specialized training courses with third party vendors related to death investigations. (General Fund - State)

Lab and Crime Scene Support

Funding is provided for laboratory based testing and crime scene response support to process evidence collected during investigations. (General Fund - State)

Legal Services

Adjustments are made for each agency's anticipated cost of Attorney General's Office legal services based on a three-year average. Because legal services costs are based on usage, funding provided in the central service model is not all inclusive. (General Fund - State)
