2025 Washington Coastal Restoration and Resiliency Initiative

The Washington Coast Restoration and Resiliency Initiative (WCRRI) was created in the 2015-17 capital budget. This program provides grants to restore aquatic and terrestrial habitat on the Washington Coast, which protects existing salmon populations and provides jobs for local communities. WCRRI projects will improve communities through job creation, more work options for local contractors, flood control, access improvement, climate resiliency and more. Additional funding is provided to pay for other projects.

Upper Green River Forest Carbon Storage

Provides grants to Tacoma Public Utilities to acquire 15,000 acres of industrial timberland in its drinking water watershed on the Upper Green River for growing older, structurally complex forests. Project goals are to increase carbon storage, protect water quality, improve habitat for forest-related biodiversity, and improve aquatic habitat to support returning salmon and other aquatic species.
