Olympic Innovation and Technology Learning Center

The center will co-locate shared-use active learning classrooms, hand-on labs, and student study space that will provide contemporary, high-tech learning environments for a wide range of the college’s STEM programs, with tutoring and support services for K-12, veterans and military service students. It will enable the college to improve recruitment and outcomes for underserved populations. The new building will improve collaboration and program delivery with the college’s K-12, local businesses and university partners. Reappropriation of prior biennia funding is included.

The new Center for Innovative Learning and Engagement will create an environment that allows students to apply learning across multiple fields and disciplines. Particular emphasis will be on programs that need updated laboratory spaces but do not currently have access to them, including business, paralegal, humanities, social sciences, and communications. State funds will be matched with $1 million in local funds. Reappropriation of prior biennia funding is included.

This item replaces 47,681 GSF in three buildings with a single new 49,961 GSF facility on the Shoreline campus. The STE(A)M Education Center will bring academic, professional-technical, and arts programs together to increase student success, achievement and retention. The center co-locates the nursing, math, and music programs to create an interdisciplinary space that fosters students’ ability to think critically, collaborate, and be creative. It will contain general purpose classrooms and informal study spaces, configured and equipped for active learning shared by all disciplines on campus. The project will remove barriers to ADA access on the steeply sloped campus. Reappropriation of prior biennia funding is included.
