Definition

Develop, schedule, and coordinate interior design specifications for new and modified college buildings.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions in this class are distinguished by responsibility to design, plan, and coordinate the decor and furnishing of interior spaces for college buildings and facilities.

Typical Work

Develop interior design concepts for buildings; prepare and plan specifications and color boards including associated preliminary cost estimates to present to departmental clientele; 

Schedule and coordinate the preparation of building interiors and installation of decoration, including furnishings, drapes, floor coverings, paint, hardware, heating conductors, and lighting; 

Prepare preliminary budgets and direct procedures for purchasing; 

Prepare written specifications and working drawings; 

Assist departments in planning interior decoration; 

Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree in interior design, architecture, or allied field and one year of experience in professional interior design work. Additional experience in professional interior design work may substitute, year-for-year, for educational requirements. 

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. 

Examination Requirements: 

  • A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
