Definition

Reviews, processes, evaluates, and approves a wide variety of credentials such as determining student admissibility or rejection, course transfer credit, course equivalency, class standing, graduation eligibility, and degree transfers.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Under general supervision, evaluates and approves education credentials for admission or graduation. With delegated authority, admits or denies student admission and/or graduation based upon evaluations of academic credentials.

Typical Work

Informs prospective students about eligibility and the application process including special academic programs; 

Checks admissions credentials for completeness and initiates requests for missing information;  

Reviews and evaluates credentials of students applying for admission including the calculation of the transfer grade point average, admission index, number of credits, transferable courses/credits, course equivalency, and class level at entrance; 

Admits or denies students and initiates notice of appropriate action; advises students regarding the appeal procedure; 

Prepares written academic profile of students who petition following a denial; 

Evaluates academic credentials for completion of graduation requirements; grants or denies degree based on final evaluation; 

Updates and maintains a computerized transcript database for advising purposes;

Consults with and interprets for departments, students, other institutions and the public, on a variety of matters concerning admissions procedures and academic programs; 

Acts as liaison between departments and students seeking information or admission to specialized academic programs; 

Assists in the training of new evaluators; 

Maintains a library of college catalogs and other related documents used in the evaluation of credentials to determine new course equivalencies for other collegiate institutions' courses; 

Evaluates military documents such as AP, CLEP, and Dantes test results for consideration of credit; 

May direct the work of others; 

Performs related duties as required.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

High School graduation or equivalent

AND 

two years of admissions, registrar's or related office experience.

OR 

Equivalent education/experience.
