Definition

Evaluates and processes education credentials for admission and/or graduation.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Under general supervision, makes preliminary evaluations for record regarding admissions to the college or university and identifies course equivalency for advanced standing and/or satisfaction of degree requirements.

Typical Work

Reviews credentials of students applying for admission and/or graduation; 

Refers academic records and evaluations to senior credentials evaluation staff for acceptance determination; 

Checks admissions folders for completeness and initiates requests for additional admissions data; 

Computes and records cumulative grade point averages; 

Updates computerized student records; 

Notifies applicants of acceptance or denial of admission; 

Reviews degree applications for completion of required course work as identified in appropriate college catalogs; 

Receives all credentials in a specialized area to which assigned; confers with departments concerning their requirements; interprets regulations for departments and applicants; 

Prepares and processes necessary forms to arrange for registration of admitted applicants; 

Acts as liaison between department and students; 

Answers a variety of general telephone and in-person inquiries from applicants, staff and others; composes and types letters to students as required; 

Evaluates academic records for graduation applicants including computation of final grade point averages and verification that the general education, distribution, and major requirements have been satisfied; informs applicants of subject matter and grade point deficiencies; 

Performs related duties as required.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

High School graduation

AND 

one year of admissions or related office experience.

OR 

Equivalent education/experience.
