ASSISTANT FINANCIAL AID DIRECTOR
Definition
Assist the director and assume full responsibility and authority in the absence of the director for all federal, state, and local student aid programs.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Under administrative direction, assist the director in the administration of the federal, state, and local financial aid programs and scholarship programs and provide technical direction to subordinate staff. Represent the institution at various federal and state financial aid meetings and workshops. Has the delegated authority to determine student eligibility and awards. Assist in the development and implementation of institutional policies and procedures governing financial aid programs and awards.
The duties of these positions normally include staff supervision.
Typical Work
Coordinate federal, state and local financial aid programs and scholarship programs; ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations;
Interview and counsel students on financial, personal, academic, and vocational problems; make referrals to institution and community resources;
Evaluate student's financial need; determine awards based on federal, state, and institutional regulations and availability of funds;
Monitor recipient academic progress and evaluate appeals for reinstatement or exceptional circumstances;
Maintain liaison with local service organizations, businessmen, faculty members, department heads and all others interested in student aid programs;
Responsible for reconciliation and reporting of federal and state programs;
Develop and deliver student orientation sessions; conduct workshops in the community;
May administer the work study programs and a job placement program for part-time student employment;
Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree
AND
two years of counseling or public contact experience which includes one year related to student financial aid
Equivalent education/experience.
