Definition

Leads others and receives and disburses funds; records monetary transactions; verifies daily records of receipts, consolidates cash receipts and deposits, maintains control records of receipts and disbursements; transfers funds; prepares and inputs data to computer.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Regularly assigns, instructs and checks the work of others. Under general direction, uses established guidelines and exercises independent judgment in the performance of assigned tasks such as receiving and disbursing funds, preparing receipts, making adjustments to funds, maintaining records, and preparing bank deposits.

Typical Work

Verifies, consolidates, and balances cash receipts; makes and maintains reports and records of cash flow; prepares daily bank deposits;

Safeguards monies within assigned area of responsibility;

Makes cash and accounting adjustments;

Computes fees and prepares computer input documents, or operates terminals as required in cashiering function;

Oversees maintenance, balancing, and replenishing of cashier change funds;

Performs the duties of Cashier 2;

Forwards funds to a central cashier office for deposit;

Assists with collection of bad checks;

Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: Cashiering and bookkeeping procedures involving receipt of funds, adjusting and transferring funds, and recording transactions.

Ability to: Lead staff; receive cash, checks and/or credit card payments; maintain records of funds received, distributed, and transferred; balance records; maintain and enforce security procedures to ensure safety of funds; compute fees; oversee maintenance, balancing, and replenishing of cashier change funds.

Desirable Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent

 AND

eighteen months of fiscally-related work such as bank teller or retail salesclerk.

OR 

Equivalent education/experience.
