Definition
Within an agency or institution’s information systems organization, assists in the preparation of input data for use on a computer and in the maintenance of quality control over computer-generated output.
Distinguishing Characteristics
First-level class of series. Under direct supervision, assists in the preparation of input data for use on the computer and in balancing and distribution of output.
Typical Work
Assists in records maintenance and log or control balancing;
Assists in computer input preparation and/or user data preparation;
Performs distribution control functions; i.e., bursting, decollating, binding;
Assists in inventory control and ordering required supplies;
Assists in tape library, including tape inspection, cleaning and storage;
May operate data entry equipment, remote terminals, computer peripheral or computer-related equipment or satellite computer input/output devices;
Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: electronic data processing and basic computer concepts; office practices and procedures; records maintenance and control.
Ability to: understand and carry out oral and written instructions, work with others; write clearly.

Desirable Qualifications
High School Diploma, or GED Certificate;
OR
Six months of related work experience or applicable training.
