COMMUNITY OUTREACH & ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATIONAL SPECIALIST 1
Class Series Concept
Positions in this series have responsibility for activities involving community outreach and environmental/conservation education programs. Duties include performing informational services for the public; and researching, developing, coordinating, and implementing plans and programs. Examples of program areas may include, but are not limited to: Waste Reduction, Recycling and Litter Control, Toxics Cleanup, and Water Resources.
Definition
Positions at this level provide technical assistance for community outreach and environmental/conservation education activities including research, development, and/or updating of materials. Positions work under general supervision and within narrowly established guidelines. Positions have limited latitude to resolve problems outside of written guidelines.
Typical Work
Provides technical assistance related to education/outreach programs; researches, develops, updates and distributes educational outreach materials;
Prepares educational materials such as brochures, fact sheets, pamphlets, displays and other educational/outreach materials; develops newsletter, identifying new and updated educational material;
Coordinates program information with various employees, managers, community leaders and the general public;
Serves on educational task forces and committees to research and develop educational/outreach activities;
Makes oral presentations of environmental information to various groups such as teachers, students, employees and the community;
Assists managers in developing, implementing, and/or overseeing community outreach plans and/or activities.

Desirable Qualifications
Positions typically require a Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or natural science, education, communications or closely related field; or equivalent education/experience.
