Definition

Supervises a team of Lottery Telemarketing Representatives 1 in selling instant ticket products, including the distribution of promotional materials to retail outlets statewide.

Typical Work

Supervises a team of telemarketing representatives responsible for sales and distribution of lottery products statewide; establishes workloads and monitors performance; motivates staff to ensure successful attitudes towards product marketing;  

Supervises inventory management activities for instant ticket products and point-of-sale materials to over 3,600 retail outlets statewide; provides redistribution of products and materials as necessary to ensure maximum market penetration and sales potential; 

Monitors sales by Telemarketing Representatives as compared to sales goals; coaches as required. 

Consults with regional sales managers and other marketing professional staff to identify game features; prepares scripts and/or other materials to be used over the phone to promote the products, ensuring continuity of promotional message to retail outlets, including descriptions of incentive and special promotional programs;  

Consults with regional managers and account representative regarding information received from retail outlets and players regarding agency operations, games, and performance of field staff;  

Recommends and implements changes to distribution and inventory system; participates as needed on executive management team to provide information on the impact of programs or operations on retail outlets; serves as direct communication link between Lottery Headquarters and retail outlets; coordinates information to field staff; 

Responds to special market research requests; designs format of information and questionnaire for use in the gathering of information;  

Deals with retailer concerns, complaints and problems as identified by Telemarketing Representatives and regional sales;  

Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:  wholesale product control and distribution systems and advanced telemarketing techniques. 

Ability to:  motivate staff for maximum efficiency and performance in reaching established sales goals.

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position. 

Desirable Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, marketing, communications, advertising, or closely allied field and two years of sales experience, including at least six months as a supervisor.

OR 

One year as a Lottery Telemarketing Representative 1. 

Additional sales experience or years of employment with a lottery may be substituted, year for year, for education.   

NOTE:  Sales experience is defined as the direct solicitation of potential customers and the convincing of them to purchase a product or service.  (Consumer products, business products, equipment, or services are examples.) 

Experience as a sales clerk or cashier in a department or other store, restaurant, or other enterprise is not considered to be qualifying for any of the Lottery classes.
