Definition

Supervises Cashiers. Monitors and administers departmental cash handling controls, policies, and procedures.

Distinguishing Characteristics

With delegated authority, interviews and recommends selection of applicants, conducts training, assigns and schedules work, acts upon leave requests, conducts annual performance evaluations and recommends disciplinary action. Develops, revises and submits for approval controls, procedures and records necessary to safeguard cash and efficiently operate the cashiering function.

Typical Work

Supervises staff performing cashiering functions; provides training; plans, organizes and assigns workload; reviews work for accuracy and compliance with procedures;

Interprets rules, regulations, and policies; monitors and recommends improvements for procedures used to receive payments and other cash flow operations; disseminates changes in policies and procedures;

Investigates and resolves cash discrepancies and customer complaints;

Maintains records, compiles data, and oversees preparation of reports;

Maintains, balances, and replenishes central change and cashiering change funds;

Safeguards monies deposited and enforces security procedures to ensure safety of funds;

Receives cash, check, and/or credit card payments and writes receipts; makes bank deposits; posts and balances account ledgers;

Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: Cashiering and bookkeeping procedures involving receipt of funds, adjusting and transferring funds, and recording transactions.

Ability to: Supervise staff; interpret rules, regulations, and policies; investigate and resolve cash discrepancies and customer complaints; maintain records of funds received, distributed, and transferred; balance records; maintain and enforce security procedures to ensure safety of funds; oversee maintenance, balancing, and replenishing of cashier change funds; receive cash, checks and/or credit card payments.

Desirable Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of fiscally-related work such as bank teller or retail salesclerk including six months of lead duties

Equivalent education/experience.
