Definition

Oversees wagering at pari-mutuel facilities to ensure that wagering is carried out in accordance with state law and the administrative rules adopted by the Washington Horse Racing Commission.

Typical Work

Inspects simulcast and satellite wagering facilities that receive video signals broadcast to them by horse race tracks conducting "live" racing. Ensures that the proper video signal is displayed and, in the case of satellite facilities, that the facility is in conformance with health and safety standards established by the Department of Labor and Industries.

Ensures that wagering on races simulcast at racetracks and satellite facilities is conducted in accordance with WHRC's "Rules of Racing."

Verifies that wagers on a particular horse race are halted when the race begins. If necessary, activates manual override procedures to stop betting.

Maintains a log of the problems and irregularities that occur at satellite facilities and files reports on complaints and conditions at satellite facilities.

Ensures that the results of horse races are recorded.

Ensures that pari-mutuel clerks at satellite locations are licensed.

Conducts daily audits of the satellite facilities "wagering bank."

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

One year of experience in the horse racing industry,

OR

One year of experience with video or telecommunications systems.

Equivalent education/experience.
