Definition

In the Division of Disability Determination Services, supervises DDS Examiner Support Specialists. Positions also perform the duties of ESS 1s, 2s, and 3s for the evaluation and determination of disability for the Social Security Administration and State Title XIX programs.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the supervisory level of the series. Positions at this level are experts for the departments in DDS and supervise a unit of Examiner Support Specialists.

Typical Work

Supervises, evaluates, coaches and mentors staff; reviews, evaluates, and assigns work; Recommends corrective action; coordinates recruitment and staff selection;

Establishes unit workloads and quality standards; monitors and ensures adequate training is available for staff; works closely with ESS 3-Leads to monitor workloads, redistribute as necessary;

Coordinates and assists in developing training methods and policy and procedures manuals; Investigates and responds to complaints from state, federal, and legal partners;

Consults with agency management regarding unit requirements; makes recommendations regarding staffing, equipment, space, etc.

Creates and prepares specialized reports;

Coordinates for consistency in business processes between offices and regions;
Performs work of ESS 1-3;

Performs other duties as required.

Legal Requirement(s)

Background Checks are required by the Social Security Administration.
There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer's responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least three years of professional experience as an Examiner Support
Specialist

Additional years of qualifying experience will substitute year for year for education.
