In a high volume offset print shop, assists the press operator in large format (over 22”) press work where operations require the assistance of a second person.

Positions are found within a high volume, large format print shop characterized by specialized, high speed offset printing equipment requiring an operator and an assistant due to the size, complexity, and safe operation of the equipment.
Positions in this class assist operators of large presses with four or more print units in the production of high quality printed materials. Responsibilities include making adjustments to the feeder, print units, delivery; monitoring fountain solution and ink; monitoring paper supply and feeding the press as needed; and cleaning the press and adjacent areas.

Typical Work
Assists the operator of the press in producing printed materials including adjusting the feeder, print units, and adjusting the delivery;
Monitors paper supply and feeds press as needed;
Monitors fountain solution and ink;
Takes off finished product;
Assists the operator with preventative maintenance, press wash-ups, and make ready;
Interprets job tickets and facilitates quality printing;
Relocates supplies;
Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge of: press operations including materials, methods, and the equipment used.

Desirable Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent
AND
One year of experience operating offset printing or bindery equipment.
Completion of a vocational school reprographics program may substitute for experience.
