Definition

Performs journey level data consultant work developing, designing, performing statistical analysis and organizing research projects and studies.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Performs a variety of research and statistical analysis such as:

  • Designing, developing and evaluating alternate methods of data collection procedures, sample selections and statistical requirements;
  • Establishing research or statistical analysis processes and determining method of analysis or study.
  • Working with team leaders and members to solve client analytics issues and documenting results and methodology;
  • Writing or editing narrative reports for special or annual reports;

Typical Work

Outlines, organizes and executes non-routine technical data or statistical analysis; 

As a team member identifies problem areas for analytical research and participates in data related projects; 

Follows well-defined plans, methods and procedures to gather, compile, code, classify and analyze data using statistical reasoning;  

Designs experiments, tests hypothesis and builds model;  

Models and frames data scenarios requiring analysis to provide probability modeling; 

Conducts data analysis and moderately complex design algorithms; 

Validates analysis by comparing appropriate samples; 

Works with staff outside the organization to obtain and exchange information, ideas and recommendations; 

May participate in joint research projects; 

May work within a specialized field; 

May lead lower level staff; 

Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: research methods; statistical theory and techniques; sources of study information; current project theory, principles and problems; statistical reasoning and statistical procedures. 

Ability to: identify and obtain appropriate data to analyze; interpret data; make arithmetic computations quickly and accurately; analyze and interpret complex data; write clearly and concisely; follow oral and written instructions.

Desirable Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree including college level course work in statistics and/or mathematics.   

AND 

One year of year experience working as a Data Consultant 1 or equivalent.  

OR

Equivalent education/experience.
