Class Series Concept

Definition

This is the expert level of the series with statewide responsibility over corrections programs. Reviews and develops policies; provides quality assurance, improvement and oversight of correctional programs.

OR

Serves as the supervisor of assigned corrections specialist staff with facility-wide or regional-wide correctional program responsibilities.

Typical Work

Provides expert consultation and technical assistance for correctional program delivery and/or compliance with rules, regulation and policies;

Prepares budget requests for assigned correctional programs;

As a supervisor, plans, organizes, evaluates, assigns and directs work activities of lower-level corrections specialist staff;

Performs grant administration for federally funded programs;

Develops correctional program implementation plans;

Identifies and recruits eligible participants in the incarcerated population for the ReFORM Act grant program;

Supervises professional Substance Abuse Recovery Unit and contract staff ensuring assessments are conducted on priority populations within prisons and Reentry Centers across Washington State;

Provides quality assurance and quality improvement development and oversight for all evidence-based community and prison-based substance abuse treatment services;

Facilitates cognitive behavior intervention programs, which target criminogenic needs, to higher risk incarcerated individuals;

Develops, revises, implements, interprets, and/or administers program specific policies, procedures, practices and sets standards for existing and new program activities impacting outside entities, volunteers, industries, associations or members of the public;

Conducts or directs tasks to develop, implement, monitor and analyze program reporting systems;

Recommends RCW/WAC changes through agency and/or legislatives means;

Performs other related work as required.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Desirable Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

AND

Five years of professional corrections experience, including at least one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity.

Note: Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for up to two years of the desired education. A Master's degree will substitute for one year of experience.
