BAND INSTRUMENT REPAIR TECHNICIAN

Definition
Provides repairs, adjustments, and preventive/routine maintenance to a variety of wind, brass, and percussion instruments, all of which can be held or carried, such as: piccolos, clarinets, alto and tenor saxophones, trumpets, mellophones, trombones, baritones, sousaphones, and the drumline.
Typical Work
Inspects and repairs damaged wind, brass, and percussion instruments;
Troubleshoots issues when repairs are not immediately possible;
Keeps required records and performs related duties as required;
Works with students and ensemble program to facilitate the best musical experience;
Works with music faculty to assure long-term health of instrument inventory;
Uses and maintains instrument repair tools, including, but not limited to wrenches, screwdrivers, welding torches, brass cleaning chemicals, etc.;
Orders parts as needed for repairs;
Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: fundamental skills necessary for band instrument, evaluation, repair, and instrument set-up of a variety of marching band instruments, including piccolos, clarinets, alto and tenor saxophones, trumpets, mellophones, trombones, baritones, sousaphones, and drums.
Ability to: work extended hours; to multitask and prioritize; effectively communicate with a diversity of individuals; evaluate situations quickly; lift 50 pounds; play-test the instruments being repaired to uncover any hidden problems mechanically and acoustically; use instrument repair tools, including, but not limited to wrenches, screwdrivers ,welding torches, brass cleaning chemicals, etc.

Desirable Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, experience performing in marching bands with basic knowledge of how to play all the instruments in a marching band, and prior experience working with students and using instrument repair tools.
