Class Series Concept
This classification is distinguished from the Boat Operator by the absence of regular assignment to operate shuttle boats for the University of Washington Athletic Department on gamedays or special events.
Definition
Under direct supervision, maintains a safe environment of docks on game days or special events; handles lines and rigging to launch or dock the boat; performs custodial or general maintenance tasks as directed.
Typical Work
Assists with getting underway, mooring, anchoring, and handling lines in all weather conditions;
Assists in boarding and disembarking of passengers and vehicles;
Assists with installation of log booms and buoy installation;
Assists with filling water, bunkering fuel, connecting and disconnecting shore power as directed;
Performs cleaning and custodial tasks of the vessels and dock areas;
Reports safety related concerns;
Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e. fire extinguishers, fire stations, life preservers, work vest, life floats and rescue boats).
Ability to: effectively interact with the passengers, guests, and fellow employees; physically perform required work; work evenings and weekends; follow oral direction.
