ANESTHESIOLOGY TECHNICAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR
Definition
Direct the technical functions of an Anesthesiology Unit and supervise technical staff on a 24-hour basis.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Direct the technical functions of the Anesthesiology Unit, including supervision of technical staff, participation in budget preparation, equipment purchase authorization, and assistance with the Quality Assurance program.
Typical Work
With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations, and recommend disciplinary actions;
Participate in planning and developing department budgets and allocation and utilization of funds and patient charges;
Develop and conduct on-going in-service training programs; instruct unit staff and/or attending physicians, residents, and nursing staff regarding technical aspects of equipment, materials, and techniques;
Assist with Quality Assurance program; insure unit's compliance with hospital, state, and federal guidelines;
Develop preventative maintenance program;
Evaluate new equipment and innovative techniques; recommend feasibility of utilizing new equipment and techniques;
Analyze effect of new equipment and/or techniques on budget, patient care and departmental efficiency;
Coordinate the purchase of major equipment and supplies;
Participate in departmental construction planning and space utilization;
Act as liaison with other anesthesiology units regarding the use of new equipment or techniques;
Review current literature to maintain up-to-date knowledge of the field;
Perform duties of an Anesthesiology Technician Lead;
Perform related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in business or science and two years of experience as an Anesthesiology Technician Lead or equivalent. Additional experience as an Anesthesiology Technician Lead may substitute, year-for-year, for the required education.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
