Assist in the practice of occupational therapy under the supervision of an occupational therapist.
Definition
Assists occupational therapists to evaluate patients through observing, testing, and measuring. Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, plans, implements, and documents treatment plans for patients. Performs administrative and clerical tasks.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Under the general occupational therapy supervision of an occupational therapist, provides and assists with routine occupational therapy services.
Typical Work
Assists occupational therapist with the patient assessment process; prepares patients and environment for treatment;
Implements treatment; motivates and encourages the patient toward independence in activities of daily living;
Facilitates or Co-facilitates occupational therapy groups;
Monitors and reports patient's response to treatment; modify treatment as directed;
Assists in therapeutic adaptation and/or fabricate equipment and orthotics;
Reports patient progress and schedule assigned patients;
Documents patient progress; maintains services related records;
Maintains supplies and therapeutic equipment in a clean, safe working environment;
Participates in orienting students, interns, and volunteers;
Performs clerical duties as assigned;
Performs related duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited educational program for occupational therapy assistants
Successful completion of the National Board for Certification in occupational therapy (NBCOT) occupational therapy assistant certification examination
Active Washington state license, or license eligible to practice as an occupational therapy assistant.
Physical ability to move patients and equipment.
Equivalent education/experience.
