Definition

Under general supervision, independently performs criminal history record information and sex and kidnapping offender registration technical tasks. Ensures accurate entry and update of information, disseminates CHRI/SOR upon request to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, non-criminal justice agencies, public and private sector employers and the general public throughout the state and outside of the state, regarding Washington State Patrol CHRI/SOR related topics.

Typical Work

Under general supervision, independently performs criminal history record information and sex and kidnapping offender registration technical tasks. Ensures accurate entry and update of information, disseminates CHRI/SOR upon request to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, non-criminal justice agencies, public and private sector employers and the general public throughout the state and outside of the state, regarding Washington State Patrol CHRI/SOR related topics.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: criminal history document processing; current public disclosure and dissemination policies, criminal laws, Sex/Kidnapping Offender registry laws, Criminal Records Privacy Act, Child and Adult Abuse Information Act, federal laws, and other related Washington State RCWs, WSP policies and WACs to evaluate, process, and disseminate complex/technical CHRI/SOR; fingerprint and record file establishment and maintenance.

Ability to: use the Washington State Identification System database; to effectively enter data into the WASIS database, be able to locate and retrieve data; utilize, update, and maintain databases and programs used for processing CHRI/SOR for creating and disseminating Records of Arrests and Prosecution sheets; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; employees must maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality; follow written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members and officers from other criminal justice agencies.

Legal Requirement(s)

There may be instances where individual positions must have additional licenses or certification. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure the appropriate licenses/certifications are obtained for each position.

Persons legally authorized to work in the U.S. under federal law, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, are eligible for employment unless prohibited by other state or federal law.

Desirable Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

AND

One year of experience maintaining or processing criminal history or offender records, such as legal files, property files, grievance files, administrative files, medical files, parole files, counselor or custody files, in a governmental law enforcement office, court setting, or an adult or juvenile correctional agency.
College level course work in criminal justice, business administration, accounting, social science, or a related field will substitute for experience.
