Definition
Perform operating and maintenance work on high voltage distribution systems.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this class are distinguished by the requirement to work with, install, and repair electrical distribution systems carrying 751 volts or more.
Typical Work
Splice electric multiple phase power cable of various types; form straight splices, joints for branch lines, and fittings for terminal connections;
Conduct preventative maintenance program on transformers and switch gear;
Install, connect, operate, and maintain a variety of electrical equipment including power distribution systems, portable engine generators, transformers and switches, and street lighting;
Pull, install, test, and repair cable;
Operate a variety of hand and power tools;
Direct the work of apprentices or helpers as assigned;
Drive service truck as required; load and unload materials and supplies;
Perform related duties as required.

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of electrical trade; electrical codes; safety precautions; basic computer skills.
Ability to: work from blueprints, plans, and sketches; estimate materials and time needed to complete jobs; use hand and power tools.

Legal Requirement(s)
Current Washington State EL01 License/Certificate issued by the Department of Labor and Industries. Exemptions outlined in statute may be applied but are not required to be.

Desirable Qualifications
One year of experience as a journey-level certified electrician.
Experience assisting a higher-level electrician conducting high-voltage electrician work.
Equivalent education/experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license may be required.
