Typical Work
Perform all duties of a welder;
Lead assigned personnel in the performance of work;
Assure adherence to safety rules, regulations, and precautions by assigned personnel;
Develop preliminary cost estimates for installation and repair;
Develop methods and procedures to be followed by assigned personnel;
May perform work in other trades;
Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: characteristics of ferrous and non ferrous metals under welding conditions; principles and operation of oxyacetylene and arc welding equipment; fluxes and hardening agents; fundamentals of heat treatment; standards for welding high pressure boilers, steam lines, and other potentially hazardous equipment; basic computer skills.
Ability to: read and work from blueprints, plans, and sketches; u6e oxyacetylene and arc equipment in all welding positions; estimate materials and time needed to complete jobs.
Legal Requirement(s)
Desirable Qualifications
One year, full-time experience as a journey welder-fabricator or equivalent trade skill. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Some positions require a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
