Definition
This is the journey level of the series. Positions coordinate and perform skilled veterinary technical duties, regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others. Assists in the evaluation and implementation of new techniques and equipment; assists in assessing the impact of new programs, operating procedures and requirements.
Typical Work
Monitors and maintains quality control and safety standards;
Oversees records maintenance, routine equipment maintenance and ordering and maintenance of supplies;
Prepares, organizes and assists in animal surgery; administers anesthetics and injections;
Performs radiology procedures and processes films; cleans, adjusts and replaces parts of x-ray equipment;
Assists in explaining specific techniques to students and/or research personnel;
May supervise lower level staff.

Desirable Qualifications
Positions typically require an Associate Degree from an accredited school of animal technology, or registration, certification or licensure in an animal or veterinary technician field and one year full-time experience in level one or equivalent.
