Definition

Serves as food service attendant aboard an ocean research vessel with a capacity for up to 60 crew and research personnel.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Under direct supervision, performs routine and unskilled tasks related to the food service aboard an oceangoing vessel.

Typical Work

Serves as assistant to the cook and baker in food preparation;

Cleans vegetables or does other duties of comparable simplicity;

Serves meals to ship's crew and scientific party;

Stows and assists in inventorying provisions;

Cleans and sanitizes galley, messrooms and food storage spaces;

Performs related duties as required.
