Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards accepting nominations

OLYMPIA - Serve Washington is accepting nominations for the 12th annual Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards, which recognize individuals, volunteer groups and families for their volunteer efforts. The awards honor some of the state’s most dedicated individuals and groups for their commitment to volunteerism as the foundation for caring communities and a thriving Washington.

This year, a team of judges will review applications to select 11 individual awards, five national service awards and three group awards in the following categories:

Individual awards

National service awards

Youth (18 and younger)
Veteran
AmeriCorps alumna/alumnus
Citizen Corps/CERT volunteer
Employee volunteer
Environment
Health care
Nonprofit organization
Disaster/emergency response
Human services (e.g., hunger, homeless, poverty)
Education

AmeriCorps member
VISTA volunteer
Foster Grandparent Program
Retired Senior Volunteer Program
Senior Companion Program

Group awards
Employer-based program
Service group
Volunteer family

Honorees will be recognized at the Volunteer Service Awards ceremony to be held Monday, April 11, 2016, at the Executive Mansion in Olympia and later during a pre-game ceremony at Safeco Field in Seattle in conjunction with the Seattle Mariners Salute to Volunteers Night.

The deadline to submit nominations is 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26, 2016. All nominations must be submitted via the online form unless accommodations are requested.
