Lucy Covington Center

40000071

Funding is provided for design of the Lucy Covington Leadership House, a 15,000-square-foot facility that will support the success of Native American students at the university and beyond. The facility is designed to foster a sense of community and ease students’ transition from home to the university setting. It will feature cultural and community gathering areas, event spaces, student collaboration and support spaces, and exhibition galleries and performance areas. The project will advance the goals of the university’s Lucy Covington Initiative by honoring her legacy and providing dedicated support for Native American students, reinforcing the university’s commitment to regional tribes. The project seeks to build a space that not only supports the academic and cultural needs of indigenous students, but also serves as a hub for inter-tribal collaboration, cultural exchange, and community engagement. By focusing on these priorities, the Lucy Covington Leadership House will create an environment where Native American students can thrive, develop leadership skills, and connect with their cultural heritage.
