2025-27 Forest Riparian Easement Program
40000450
In 2001, the Legislature created the Forest Riparian Easement Program (FREP) to compensate eligible small forest landowners for the disproportionate financial impacts of expanded riparian protections resulting from forests and fish laws and rules. With the passage of Senate Bill 5667, FREP now pays small forest landowners 90% of the value of required leave trees in riparian areas and associated unstable slope buffers where timber harvesting is prohibited. The landowner continues to own the property and retains full access but cannot cut or remove the acquired timber during the easement period.
