May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Governor Inslee has declared the month of May as Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month in the State of Washington! Throughout this month, all Washingtonians are invited to share in celebrating the numerous contributions of our diverse communities to our history, economy and cultural identity.
 

Stigma. Inequity. Lack of awareness. Lack of access to care. In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, EAP taking a look at these common barriers that keep people from getting support, and how EAP resources could help overcome those barriers. 

Events

  • Join RAIN our General Membership meeting for special guest Jaelynn Scott with the Lavender Project - elevating the power, autonomy, and leadership of the Black intersex & gender diverse community through intersectional legal and social services. May 19 from 2-4 p.m.
     
  • May 17 is International Day Against Homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia - a worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversities.
     
  • Say It Out Loud Conference -We ARE family - Honoring and recognizing the many structures and diverse expressions of families, biological and chosen.

    The 2022 Annual SIOL Conference - Thursday, May 26

  • Washington State Independent Living Council Survey - Every three years WASILC and the Centers for Independent Living develop a State Plan that shows how we advocate for change and provide services. People with disabilities are the best experts on their own needs and deserve equal opportunity to decide how to live, work, and take part in their communities. The State Plan represents your voices! The survey will be open until the end of May.

  • WIN's Annual Event: Celebrating Our Immigrant Stories - WIN is hosting a virtual celebration highlighting the stories of our immigrant state employees, allies, and community partners on June 17 from noon to 2 p.m.

  • Center of Excellence - LGBTQ+ Behavioral Health Equity - Webinars and Virtual Events:
    • Supporting Families of LGBTQ+ Students - May 5 from noon to 1 p.m. ET
    • Safety Planning for LGBTQ+ Students - May 18 from noon to 1 p.m. ET
    • Important Strategies for Working with Families of LGBTQ+ Children - May 18 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. ET
    • All About the I : Intersex Inclusion - June 7 from 1 to 2 p.m. ET
    • All about the I : Panel Discussion on intersex intersectionality - July 12 from 1 to 2 p.m. ET
       
  • US Trans Survey Launches - The U.S. Trans Survey is the largest community-led survey of trans people and is instrumental to improving trans lives. Almost 28,000 trans people participated in the 2015 survey, and the information collected provided the largest-ever data set about trans experiences in the United States.

  • Chinese American History Event - Washington Immigrant Network (WIN) Executive Sponsor, Chief Lorraine Lee at OAH, and Judge Andrea Chin, Judge at Seattle Municipal Court will co-presenting a special Lunch and Learn session on Chinese-American History on May 19 from noon-1:30 p.m.

  • 20th Annual Youth Leadership Forum - August 7-12, 2022, at the Dumas Bay Center in Federal Way, WA. It is free to attend.
