Sub-subobjects added to match FDM Spend Category

July 11, 2025

In the Workday Foundation Data Model (FDM), the Spend Category (SC) worktag is analogous to the AFRS sub-subobject codes. Most have a one-to-one relationship. However, the One Washington team has added more detailed SC codes to support reporting at a more granular level. Many, but not all, are in object J – Capital Outlays.

Some agencies would like to use the more detailed coding in BI27 so that (a) the transition from AFRS to Workday will be easier, and (b) reporting over the biennium will be more uniform even though expenditures will be in both AFRS and Workday.

To accommodate these agencies, we did a comparison of the SC codes to the AFRS SSOs (excluding object N)  specifically looking for many-to-one scenarios, meaning there were multiple SC codes related to one SSO. There are a few codes we are still researching, but for most we added new SSOs to create the one-to-one relationship, per this list.

Again, use of these new SSOs is optional but encouraged. The new codes along with definitions will be added to our Sub-subobjects webpage in the Statewide sub-subobjects table-BI27 file.
