Meeting Description

Today we face numerous challenges in our world, and one of the most significant factors in which we can influence it is by participating in our representative democracy. Our participation in our democracy is via civic engagement. Civic engagement can range from local neighborhood groups to the state and national levels, but all levels influence how we live, work, and play. Civic engagement comprises actions taken by both the individual and collective members of these levels to identify and address issues of public concern. Communities that address these issues, in turn, can work to solve these issues by then working with their representatives towards influencing legislation.

Washington Immigrant Network hosts a Lunch & Learn on Thursday, December 9th, from 12:05-12:55 pm. Please join us as our outgoing intern will present the information on Civic Engagement.

About the Speaker

Michael Nepomuceno

My name is Michael Nepomuceno and I am the Washington Immigrant Network’s first-ever intern! I currently reside in Lacey, Washington. I was born and raised in California by my two Filipino immigrant parents who I am very humbled to have been given many opportunities by.

I attended the University of California, Berkeley and obtained a bachelor’s degree in History, and became a commissioned officer in the United States Army. I have served the past four years at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, am currently a Captain, and am transitioning back into the civilian workforce serving in this capacity as an intern under the WorkEx program here at WIN. I am excited for this opportunity to transition into public service and am excited to continue serving the greater community.
